It’s the season of gratitude and boy are we full of it. Thanksgiving is a time where families come together and an overall sense of thankfulness fills the air. At New Balance San Antonio, we are no different. We are thankful for our families at home, our careers at work, and this city that brings us the best customers around. Without your loyalty to the New Balance brand, we wouldn’t be here to thank you — so thank you.
This year, we are making it our mission to not only show gratitude on Thanksgiving, but all year long. There are so many health benefits to giving thanks, and as a fitness company, we are always finding ways to improve the overall health of our followers.
Dr. Joseph Mercola of Mercola.com shared some fascinating research on this topic in “An Attitude of Gratitude Can Help You Live a Longer, Happier Life.” Here are a few takeaways from the article that show how your health can improve with just a little bit of gratefulness.
- Studies show that gratitude can produce positive effects on various systems in your body, including mood neurotransmitters (serotonin and norepinephrine); stress hormones (cortisol); cognitive and pleasure related neurotransmitters (dopamine); and reproductive hormones (testosterone).
- In one study, people who kept a gratitude journal reported exercising more, and they had fewer visits to the doctor compared to those who focused on sources of aggravation.
- Research has also shown that employees whose managers say “thank you” feel greater motivation at work, and work harder than peers who do not hear those “magic words.”
